“My friend wears contacts and says they’re uncomfortable. I don’t want to deal with that.”
“I tried contacts once years ago and they didn’t feel right - so I just gave up.”
“I figured I’d just stick with glasses. I didn’t know contact lenses could be comfortable.”
We hear these kinds of comments all the time. The truth is, contact lenses have come a long way in recent years, and many of the problems people experience come down to one simple issue: an improper fit. A contact lens that’s too tight, too loose, the wrong shape, or made of a material that doesn’t match your eye’s needs can cause discomfort, blurry vision, and frustration.
A contact lens fitting is about more than just determining your prescription. Even if you’ve had a glasses exam recently, a separate and specialized exam is necessary to ensure contacts are the right choice for you and that you’re wearing the best type of lens.
During a contact lens exam and fitting at Eye See Vision Center, we start with many of the same steps included in a comprehensive eye exam:
• Evaluating your overall eye health
• Checking for dryness or irritation
• Measuring how your eyes work together
• Identifying any underlying conditions that could impact lens wear
This thorough approach helps us determine whether contact lenses are safe and suitable for your eyes.
After we assess your eye health, we move into the lens fitting portion. This is where we take detailed measurements of your eye, including the curvature of the cornea and the size of the pupil and iris. These factors are critical in determining which lens material and design will provide both clear vision and all-day comfort.
You’ll also try on lenses during the fitting. These trial lenses allow us to see how the lenses sit on your eyes in real time. We evaluate the movement of the lenses when you blink, how well your tears flow across the lens surface, and how your vision performs with them in place.
There are many different types of lenses available, from daily disposables and extended wear to multifocal and toric lenses for astigmatism. Material types vary as well, and some lenses are more breathable or moisture-retaining than others.
If you’ve struggled with contact lenses in the past, it’s time to revisit your options. An accurate, custom fitting ensures not only that your vision is sharp but that you can wear your lenses comfortably and confidently all day long.
